Our Pastor - Joseph Foxworth Sr.

After completing service in the U. S. Army, Joseph moved to Philadelphia to attend Temple University. While there, he met and married Catherine Stanley. Joe received Christ in 1963 while serving at the Solomon Temple Baptist Church as a musician. He received the divine calling to preach the Word of God and in 1968, was licensed and ordained.
Upon relocating to Altadena, Rev. Foxworth attended the New Revelation Baptist Church in Pasadena, CA and served as Minister of Music, Administrative Assistant to the Turner School of Learning and as Assistant Pastor for eleven years. He made history in the Pasadena area as the first Black Gospel Disc Jockey, reaching some 250,000 listeners with the "Gospel Hour" for which he received numerous awards.
Rev. Foxworth continued his education and graduated from Pasadena City College and completed the Bachelor of Arts and Masters programs at the University of LaVerne in LaVerne, California. He received his Doctorate of Divinity degree from the American Institute of Theology in 1992. He also holds numerous certificates from the L. K. Williams Institute, Hampton Institute, WHW Minister Conferences, Columbus Baptist Pastors Conference and many more.
Dr. Foxworth served as Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Indio, CA before being called as Pastor of Pilgrim Progressive Baptist Church. He has been the Pastor of the Pilgrim Church for the past 26 years. He and Sis. Catherine Foxworth are the proud parents of six children and 15 grandchildren.
Pastor Foxworth is denominationally active secretary of the Western Baptist State Convention. He previously served as First Vice Moderator of the Southwest District Association, Coordinator of the Western Baptist State Convention Music Department, Instructor in the National Baptist Convention Congress on Christian Education and President of the Baptist Ministers United of San Diego and Vicinity. In May of 2002, he was honored as Pastor of the Year.
Pastor Foxworth continues to strive to win souls for Christ, encourage those that are weak in the faith and serve the total man - economically, educationally, politically, socially and spiritually. Pilgrim is truly blessed to have Rev. Foxworth as their Shepherd!
